Team Pokki
Angry Birds Pokki is the port of the popular Iphone and Android game. The franchise revolves around a mechanic of tossing birds with different abilities across an arena, in an attempt to knock down enemy pigs on the other side. Arguably the most popular physics game in the world, the Pokki port of this app holds up well on the desktop, making it a great choice for the casual gamer.
Years old by this point, the game-play has lost a little bit of it's luster. While the game has a few cut-scenes to justify scene changes, there isn't much of a story; Angry Birds isn't an epic RPG. It's designed to be played in short spurts, so you're unlikely to get bored with it easily. The graphics are colorful, though the music is slightly repetitive.
Gameplay variation feels just right. While the birds are easy to learn and players won't feel frustrated by a lack of accuracy, sometimes the difficulty can feel slightly minimal. There are a few different types of birds with their own abilities that change the pace a little.
In addition to past content for the game, designers included 15 bonus levels around the "Bad Piggies" bonus game, which puts players in control of the pigs as they attempt to thwart the birds. This version of Angry Birds also includes power ups, adding another level of nuance to the original version. Playing with a mouse definitely enhances the control, and in a way makes it feel more strategic than previous versions of the game.
With all these extras, the Pokki port is easy to recommend. With bonus content, enhanced control, and (depending on your monitor size) a larger screen, if you're a fan of the Angry Birds franchise, you can't go wrong with it's most recent iteration.
