"Armed Assault," often shortened to simply "ArmA," takes place on the fictional island of Sahrani, where the northern communist regime launches a surprise assault on the democratic kingdom to its south. Players assume the role of an American soldier who must fight to defend the democratic people in a fast-paced, first-person or third-person tactical shooter.
While scheduled missions must be completed in order, players have the freedom to choose how to proceed during each mission. Success or failure then affects the subsequent storylines, with failed missions complicating future objectives and prolonging the conflict. Players may also join online multiplayer campaigns, where a community of dedicated competitors form rival factions and even design original maps and weapons. Aside from its rich multiplayer experience, the game's best feature may be the authenticity of its world design, which comes complete with realistic weaponry and detailed military tactics.
