Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is a horror game that delivers more than just jump scares.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 is at its best when you’re alone and have the lights off. The immersion is really what makes this game so memorable. In the game, you’re an overnight security guard at a pizzeria that caters to children’s birthday parties. It’s a big place, and your responsibilities involves monitoring these various areas through a multi-screen CCTV station.
Sounds simple enough, right? And it should be except that on your very first night the animatronic characters come to life. At first, they’re just trolling you, but the hostility quickly ramps up. These creatures want to do much more than just scare you in the end.
The goal of the game is to survive all five nights, and each night will be more difficult than the one before it. Most gamers won’t even make it to night five let alone survive it on their first try. It may take multiple attempts, and once you’ve mastered it, there’s a hard more to challenge you even more.
What makes Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 so effective is that it places you under constant pressure. You’ll often make bad decisions in the moment only to realize the proper path after you’ve slept on it.
The controls are very intuitive. There aren’t a lot of special actions to learn, and the game runs well even on older machines. If there’s downside, it’s a playtime of about six hours, but that’s offset to some degree by the replay factor and all the sequels available.
