mafia-game
Mafia the City of Lost Heaven was one of the first really strong contenders to Grand Theft Auto. Instead of being excessive and silly, Mafia went the more realistic route. This allows it to have a serious, well-done story, but also it sometimes takes it a little too far. For example, you get it trouble with the cops for speeding. This isn't a huge deal as it is easy to evade the police, but it is just an example of realism being taken too far. The driving is also relatively challenging compared to similar games. Besides that, this is an open world game that invests heavily in its story missions. The story is long, deep, and interesting. Unfortunately this means there wasn't much focus on anything else to do in the city, and once you're done with the story, the game is basically over. The graphics were great at the time of release, and still hold up okay now, and the sound design is excellent, with lots of period music and great voice acting. Overall, this is a great game for people who want a good mafioso story.
