Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising is the most recent sequel to the Operation Flashpoint games, which are some of the most realistic first person war simulations available. Unfortunately, the original developer no longer works on Operation Flashpoint, and this loss of experience and focus shows through in Dragon Rising. Dragon Rising is by no means a bad game, but it can't decide whether to stay with the ultra hardcore mil-sim of its predecessors, or become more accessible to the Call of Duty crowd. This means it features the wide open maps of the original, but no random chance of coming across an enemy patrol. Your destination is clearly marked on screen at all times, and the controls and gameplay have been heavily simplified. The graphics and sound are good, but the game is pretty buggy. Overall, not the best military shooter. It could fit the bill if you want a simpler Operation Flashpoint without playing Battlefield 3.
