Rainbow Six: Lockdown was developed by Red Storm Entertainment and published by Ubisoft. It was first released in September of 2000. This was the fourth installment released in the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six series.
The storyline of Lockdown takes place in the year 2009. The elite counter-terrorist team known as Rainbow is up against the Global Liberation Front, a worldwide terrorist organization. The organization has stolen Legion, a man-made nanotech virus. The virus has an 100% mortality rate and can be massively destructive in the wrong hands. It is up to Rainbow to locate Legion and the organization before they can put the virus into affect.
There are certain platforms that allow multiplayer game play for Lockdown. One platform has the option for the gamer to choose one player that they will persistently use online while playing multiplayer. Another platform does have the exclusive option of playing the campaign in a co-op mode.
The changes made to the game play of this installment was considered very risky as it took out the tactical shooter feel of the game and replaced it with a more first person shooter feel. This did not go over well with many followers of the game.
