Endorsed by author Tom Clancy and developed by Ubisoft, "Splinter Cell: Double Agent" is a stealth action-adventure video game starring Sam Fisher, an agent for the National Security Agency's black-ops division Third Echelon. Fisher must go undercover to infiltrate an United States-based terrorist group, bringing the organization down from within before it can claim more innocent lives.
"Splinter Cell: Double Agent" exists in two distinct versions. Ubisoft Shanghai, the development team responsible for "Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow," produced one version for the Xbox360, the PlayStation 3, and the PC. Ubisoft Montreal, the team behind the original "Splinter Cell" and "Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory," produced the version available on the Xbox, the PlayStation 2, the Nintendo GameCube, and the Nintendo Wii. While both versions follow the same basic plot, they differ in terms of specific plot twists and level placements.
Because the game features Fisher working for two separate organizations, players must make difficult decisions throughout the game, executing enough of the terrorist group's objectives so as to not blow his cover and jeopardize the overriding NSA mission. The choices players make affect how the storyline plays out and how the game ultimately ends.
