"The Darkness II" features a storyline written by Paul Jenkins, one of the creative forces behind the original "The Darkness" comic books. Set two years after the events of the first title in the series, this game follows the life of Jackie Estacado as he rips his way through a bloody, unnerving and psychologically-twisted chain of events not for the faint of heart. While the plot is inarguably dark, it comes together nicely toward the end with some rather accurate portrayals of genuine human emotions that are easily sympathized with, without feeling artificial or forced.
"The Darkness II" boasts new functionality in its combat system with two human arms used for wielding guns and two demon arms that dismember, disembowel and just generally rip your enemies to shreds in new and increasingly pleasurable ways. Combination attacks help to generate more experience earned per kill and ultimately open up new skills that further vary the bloody carnage you generate. Altogether, this game provides several solid hours of twisted entertainments that both fans of the original "The Darkness" video game and fans of first-person shooters in general are likely to enjoy.
