The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion is an infamous open-world fantasy single player RPG for Windows PC, XBOX and PS3.

Set in Cyrodiil during the time of The Great Oblivion Crisis, players can choose to unravel the mystery of the Oblivion gates that are slowly but surely invading Cyrodiil or ignore them entirely – making this one of the finest RPGs ever made!

The game starts off with the player waking in prison, not knowing why they’re there. A finely dressed man walks into the room, saying he’s the King and he’s seen in his dreams that you are the key to opening the Oblivion gates.

Once free of the prison the player can choose to explore the world to the fullest, enjoy a myriad of side quests or stick solely to the plot. In the world of Oblivion you’ll be able to play as whatever you like, however you like, in a game that can be explored for hundreds of hours.

While we love this classic game, it’s important to note that the graphics are somewhat dated by modern gaming standards (the GOTY edition of The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion came out in 2011!) and may be a problem for some gamers. Players can always install graphics mods to bring the game more up-to-date, though!

That being said, few games on the market even today can compare with the scale and scope that The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion offers. If you’re a fan of old-school RPGs (especially from Bethesda and Bioware) you’ll definitely want to give this a try.

Pros

  • Hundreds of Hours of Quests, Exploration, and Combat And if that’s not enough for you, you can install thousands of mods to add quests, game features and more.
  • Play Your Way Few RPGs offer the ability to do whatever you want like The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion. Solve the mystery of the Mythic Dawn cult, become a master thief, build your own home, and so much more.

Cons

  • Dated Graphics This game originally first came out in 2007 and the complete version including all DLC was released in 2011. It’s a great game, but without graphics mods the dated graphics may be too distracting for some players.
