The Sims 2 is the second suburbanite simulator from Maxis to hit the PC gaming market. After the record-breaking success of the first Sims, Maxis decided to expand the architecture of the Sims play world in order to cater to the huge online community that created original content with the original. Unlike versions for the XBox or Playstation, the PC version of the Sims and the Sims 2 has an enormous amount of add-on content that makes seemingly endless replay possible.
While the Sims franchise is one of the most popular in gaming history, it isn't for everyone. The dollhouse like game play and lack of action may turn off some game players, but it's appeal has far greater reach than most action titles. Players of the original Sims will probably love the enhanced control of people in the Sim world. Instead of just meeting basic desires like eating, sleeping and going to the bathroom. Players will be able to fulfill or deny the hopes and dreams of their little laboratory humans. The inclusion of genetics based mating adds a whole new component to the game that's really exciting to explore.
The depth of Sims 2 is hard to summarize in any kind of review. Maxis put a lot of thought into the little details like facial expressions, character interactions, accidents, true love and downright zaniness. Most players will be thrilled to watch the day-to-day lives of their little Sims. Whether you enjoy giving your Sim the rich and happy life you've always wanted, or you like to watch the crash and burn of a truly broken character, the Sims 2 has the ability to please.
