Trine 2

Trine was a pleasant surprise when it first came out in 2009. Featuring very cool physics-based jumping puzzles, three distinct characters to play, and utterly gorgeous graphics, it provided an experience that was both engaging and whimsical. Trine 2 not only continues that tradition, it does so much more skillfully.

Trine 2 follows the same formula as its predecessor. You take control of a knight, a wizard and a thief, and guide them through a series of colorful side-scrolling levels, switching between them on the fly. The knight is the best at dealing with close-range enemies using his sword and shield. Meanwhile, the wizard can create bridges and jumping platforms through his ability to summon objects out of thin air. Finally, the thief is armed with a bow and grappling hook, making her the most agile and adept at killing from afar. It’s easy to pick a favorite character to play as, but knowing who to use in what situation is necessary to complete the game. Each level features many puzzles that some characters are better suited for than others.

What’s most impressive about Trine 2 is that improves upon everything from its already strong predecessor. The environments are more luxuriant than ever before and the characters are much more detailed. There’s a greater variety of enemies to fight, and puzzles have become even more creative. Even the multiplayer has improved; unlike the first game, Trine 2 lets you play cooperatively online!

It’s rare to see a sequel that improves upon nearly every aspect of its predecessor, but Trine 2 does exactly that. If you liked the first Trine, you’ll love this one. If you haven’t played the first game, then chances are you’ll still enjoy this! Get it now!
