Vassal is an engine that anyone can create a game inside. It is very easy to use to create board and card games, and that is exactly what many of its users have done. The result is a free system to play hundreds of classic and new board and card games on either locally, by email, or in direct multiplayer. Vassal has no real graphics to start off with, so the graphical quality of each game varies by the amount of effort the creator put into it. The same is true of the quality of each game, which varies wildly. But with hundreds and hundreds of game, there are plenty to choose from. The Vassal engine is a great way to quickly play a classic board game online with friends and family. As the engine is free and all the games are created by others, there are not really a lot of downsides to the engine itself.
