For over a decade World of Warcraft has been the most popular fantasy MMORPG, and with good reason!

When you first start WoW you'll have to choose what kind of server you want to play on. Servers come in four “flavors”: normal (player vs. everything), PvP (player vs. player), RP (roleplaying server), and RP-PvP (a mix of PvP and Roleplaying, expect lots of guildwars).

Once you’ve selected your server type you’ll be able to choose from various fantasy races, abilities and even outfits to customize your character. From there you’re thrust into a rich fantasy world where you can choose to go it alone or ally with others.

As your character becomes stronger you’ll be able to gain new abilities, take up a trade, and you can even learn skills like fishing and cooking too!

It's important to point out that this isn't your basic "hack and slash" type game - the massive battles, the political intrigue, and the sense of community are what keep gamers coming back year after year.

If you’re looking to get your feet wet with MMOs for the first time or just want to get back into gaming, Warcraft is always a great choice! They even offer a free trial, so you’ll be able to try before you buy and know whether or not it’s the right kind of game for you.

Pros

  • Free Trial Few games offer trials anymore, but WoW does! Try before you buy and know if it’s right for you.
  • Immersive Gameplay Immersive gameplay and creative storylines will keep this game new and interesting for years to come.

Cons

  • Subscription Model WoW is a subscription-type service; expect to pay for periodic upgrade DLC, too.
